AP Provision School

Minerva Learning Trust Celebrates Approval to Open Free AP Provision School in Sheffield

Minerva Learning Trust is thrilled to announce that we have successfully secured approval to establish an Alternative Provision (AP) Free School in Sheffield in partnership with Sheffield City Council. Our selection as one of just 20 schools chosen nationally is a fantastic achievement and underscores the dedication of Minerva Learning Trust and the collective effort of all involved.

The approval of our bid marks a significant milestone in addressing the growing demand for alternative provision across the country.

The government’s announcement, made alongside the spring budget, is a crucial step towards providing vital support for students in need of specialised educational environments.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all contributors who played a role in shaping and articulating our bid, emphasising the importance of collaborative partnership efforts.

The establishment of new AP free schools is a direct response to the pressing need for additional spaces and early intervention strategies. With over 1,600 extra spaces to be created nationwide, these schools aim to improve outcomes for students requiring alternative provision, ensuring they have the support needed to fulfill their potential.

This initiative is made possible by the £2.6 billion capital pledged in the 2021 spending review, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and supporting vulnerable students.

Our CEO, Bev Matthews commented:‘While we celebrate our success, we acknowledge the challenges faced by other trusts and areas that were not as fortunate in their bids. Minerva Learning Trust remains committed to working alongside other schools and trusts to address the broader educational needs of communities.’

‘As Minerva Learning Trust looks ahead, we remain dedicated to bringing our vision of providing an outstanding level of education to all staff, students, and stakeholders to life’.
