Breakfast Clubs Expanded to Support Pupils and Families

Breakfast clubs are being expanded across the city and county, helping more children begin the school day with a healthy meal and a positive start.

As part of this wider programme, Barrow Hill Primary Academy, Whittington Moor Primary & Nursery Academy and Woodthorpe Primary School, all part of Minerva Learning Trust, are participating in the initiative.

The expansion of breakfast club provision reflects a strong commitment to supporting children’s wellbeing, improving readiness to learn, and helping families manage the continuing cost‑of‑living pressures. Research consistently shows that children who eat breakfast are better able to concentrate, engage in learning, and maintain energy levels throughout the morning.

The benefits of breakfast clubs

Breakfast clubs offer a range of benefits for pupils and families, including:

  • Supporting children’s health, wellbeing and concentration
  • Creating calm and positive starts to the school day
  • Improving punctuality and attendance
  • Providing practical support for families with early morning routines

Schools that operate breakfast provision often report positive impacts on behaviour, engagement and overall school experience.

A wider regional focus

Recent local media coverage has highlighted the expansion of breakfast clubs across the wider city and county, as part of a nationally supported approach to improving outcomes for children and supporting families.
