Artsmark Silver Award

Handsworth Grange Community Sports College Honoured with Artsmark Silver Award for Commitment to Arts Education.

Handsworth Grange Community Sports College is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Silver Award in recognition of our dedication to providing outstanding Arts Education. This significant achievement marks a major milestone in our Artsmark journey and underscores our commitment to nurturing creativity, innovation, and cultural enrichment among our students.

Our commitment to arts education has been recognised by Artsmark assessors who provided the following feedback:

  • Handsworth Grange Community Sports College has shown a strong commitment to arts education, maintaining the allocated time devoted to art, drama, and music despite shifting priorities following the last Ofsted inspection.
  • The uptake in GCSE courses in art, music, and drama is on the rise, supported by the appointment of new qualified arts staff and the recent relaunch of a GCSE in Textile.
  • An Enrichment Coordinator has been appointed to expand arts and culture activities across the school, resulting in 38% of students participating in arts-related activities.
  • There is an offer of 49 creative enrichment activities to students before and after school as well as during lunchtimes.
  • Approximately 50-60 students lacking in cultural experiences are invited to live theatre performances at school.
  • Collaborations with organisations such as Sheffield Theatres, Museum Sheffield, Theatre Centre, Maya Productions, and Forced Entertainment are enhancing the arts education by providing students with new and exciting learning experiences.
  • Career opportunities in the arts and creative industries are actively promoted, and efforts are being made to build links with arts and culture organizations like the RSC.
  • The introduction of a Student Art Council (MAD) is helping to develop student engagement strategies, with a focus on reflecting the diversity of our school and wider society.
