6 November 2024
Dear all
As you may recall, I wrote to you before the summer break to inform you that, due to the General Election,
the subsequent change in Government and the wider political situation, this did not allow everything to be
signed off in time for a 1st September merger. This meant that the transfer needed to be paused until the
necessary approvals from the DfE had been received.
I am delighted to inform you that we have now had final confirmation from the DfE that, following the
necessary Ministerial approvals, the merger with Cavendish Learning Trust can go ahead.
Both Trust Boards have passed a final resolution for the merger to take place on either 1st December 2024
or 1st January 2025, depending on the successful completion of associated legal tasks.
I am also excited to announce that, as part of the agreement, we have managed to secure £3.2 million of
capital funding to invest in remedial works over the next two years, from which all Cavendish schools will
benefit. This is a fantastic outcome for our communities, especially one which will significantly enhance the
educational experience of our children.
This will deliver:
• Replacement of two heating systems and roof works at Netherthorpe School
• Replacement of the heating system and windows at Dunston; alongside additional fencing to
enhance safeguarding of the site
• Damp work and gas protection at Barrow Hill
• Electrical works at Whittington Moor
As we come together as one trust, we remain dedicated to fostering strong partnerships with staff,
governors, parents, families, and the wider community. We believe that collaboration and open
communication are essential for student success, and we are committed to working closely with all
stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing engagement.
I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support and partnership
as we embark on this exciting journey together. We are confident that by working collaboratively, we can
create a bright and promising future for all students within our trust.
Yours sincerely
Bev Matthews
Chief Executive Officer
