2026 Primary Outcomes: A Year of Progress Across Our Schools

We are delighted to share this year’s end-of-year outcomes, which show significant improvements across our schools and demonstrate the positive impact of the hard work of our pupils, staff and families.

Across the Trust, attainment has improved in almost every area compared with 2025, with particularly strong progress in mathematics and outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. Most importantly, the data shows that more children are reaching the expected standard and are better prepared for the next stage of their education.

Strong Progress Across the Trust

This year we have seen improvements across all key measures at Key Stage 2.

Compared with last year:

  • Combined Reading, Writing and Maths outcomes increased by 9%.
  • Reading improved by 3%.
  • Writing improved by 3%.
  • Mathematics improved by 11%.
  • Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (EGPS) improved by 13%.

These improvements mean that the gap between our Trust and national outcomes has narrowed considerably, particularly in Combined outcomes, Writing and Maths.

Supporting Every Child to Succeed

One of the most encouraging aspects of this year’s results is the achievement of our disadvantaged pupils.

Across the Trust, disadvantaged pupils achieved outcomes that were at or above national disadvantaged averages in all key subjects. This reflects the success of the targeted support, academic intervention and pastoral care provided across our schools.

We remain committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Celebrating School Successes

Woodthorpe Primary School

Woodthorpe continues to be the highest-performing primary school within the Trust and achieved outcomes that were at or above national figures for combined attainment. This strong performance reflects the dedication of staff, pupils and families.

.

Barrow Hill Primary Academy

Barrow Hill has made the most dramatic improvements this year, particularly in Reading, Writing and Maths. Starting from a very low baseline, the school has demonstrated that sustained improvement work is having a real and positive impact on pupils’ outcomes.

Dunston Primary School

Dunston has made significant gains across all key measures following a challenging 2025 cohort. Improvements in Writing, Maths and Grammar have been particularly strong, helping the school continue to close gaps with national averages.

Mathematics Leading the Way

Mathematics has emerged as the strongest curriculum area across the Trust. The improvements seen this year reflect the commitment of staff to delivering high-quality teaching and ensuring all pupils develop confidence and fluency in maths. This is an area we are particularly proud of.

Looking Ahead

While we celebrate the progress made this year, we remain ambitious for our children. Our priorities for 2026-27 include:

  • Continuing to improve reading and writing outcomes.
  • Raising attainment in Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling.
  • Increasing the number of pupils achieving Greater Depth standards.
  • Building on the excellent outcomes already being achieved in mathematics.
  • Continuing to narrow any remaining gaps in attainment.

Thank You

These outcomes represent the collective efforts of pupils, staff, governors, trustees, parents and carers.

We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved this year and look forward to building on this success as we continue our journey of improvement together.

The direction of travel is clear: outcomes are improving, gaps are closing, and more children are succeeding.
